Falcons rush over Mounts


Cedar Crest opened Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Two play with a 49-16 [boxscore] victory over visiting Ephrata on Friday night.

The Falcons improved to 3-1 overall, while Ephrata fell to 0-4. The Mounts now have a 35-game losing streak are still seeking their first victory since the next-to-last game of the 2012 season.

Cedar Crest scored on its first possession, when Tate Seyfert ran for an 79-yard touchdown with 8:59 left in the first quarter.

Seyfert finished the game with 131 yards on the ground on only five carries, while scoring a pair of touchdowns.

For the game, the Falcons rushed for an astounding 420 yards on 42 carries.

For visiting Ephrata, Adam Smith was the leader on offense, scoring both touchdowns — rushing scores from 4 yards and 14 yards out.

Smith also converted a two-point conversion. He finished the game with 92 yards on 19 carries.

Key to the game: Besides Seyfert’s big performance, five teammates rushed for 40 or more yards. Tyler Eisenhauser had two carries for 88 yards and a touchdown; Kendell Shand had two carries for 71 yards and a touchdown; A.J. Apple totaled 48 yards and two touchdowns; Justice Belleman had 47 yards and one touchdown; and Neisso Dorvil rushed for 40 yards.

Key stat: The Cedar Crest defense was stellar in the first half, holding Ephrata to minus-8 yards offensively.
