Parsons sets LL Meet record, wins gold medal

Talk about making a good first impression.

Ephrata freshman Kylee Parsons did just that in her first Lancaster-Lebanon League Meet held this past Friday at the Lititz Rec Center.

Parsons captured her first-ever L-L gold, claiming the 200 free in a meet record time of 1:55.13. She later added a bronze medal in the 100 free to help lead the Ephrata girls swim team to a fifth-place team finish with 47 total points.

Parsons, who outswam the rest of the field to win by almost two seconds over Hempfield's Rachel Nauman (1:57.05). Not only did the EHS ninth grader set the meet record, she broke the Ephrata mark of 1:55.67 set by Jenna Raptosh back in 2004.

Ephrata Coach Barry Erb had one word to describe his talented freshman after her break-out performance.

"Super," Erb said. "She was super. She took off and no one even got close to her. It was an amazing performance."

But not the only one for Ephrata. In addition to Parson's third in the 100 free, all three Ephrata relays earned medals. Ephrata was third in the 200 free (1:42.87), fourth in the 400 free (3:44.57) and fifth in the 200 medley (1:58.85).

"The thing is, all three placed and all three still have room to improve," Erb stated of his talented relays.

As for the Ephrata boys, the Mounts 200 free relay squad placed eighth with a time of 1:39.44.
