Mounts bounce back with two wins


ImageThe Ephrata Mounts Ice Hockey Team (5-1-0) bounced back from a tough loss vesus E-town with back to back wins. The Mounts downed Elco 11-0 and held on to beat a tough Shamrock team 5-4 (boxscore ) last night (12/11).

Shamrocks Trev Milstead started the scoring with his first of three goals with 14:49 left in the opening period. The Mounts came right back scoring three unanswered goals in the first. The first two goals were made by Brandon Pike, both of which were assisted by Shane Allen. For the third goal the two Mounts reversed roles and Pike assisted Allen.

The Shamrocks slipped another puck past Devon Williams with only 4 seconds left in the period making the score 3-2 in favor of the Mounts at the end of the 1st period.

After an early goal by Shane Allen, his 7th on the season, the rest of the second period remained scoreless.

Milstead added another Shamrock score with 11:48 left in the third cutting the lead to 4-3, but Ephrata answered back three minutes later as Pike recorded his hat trick and his 14th goal on the season. One minute later Milstead added his third goal on the night to pull the Shamrocks within one, but Williams kept the puck out of the net the rest of the way as the Mounts hung on 5-4.

The Mounts outshot the Shamrocks (1-1-2) 31-25 on the night. Ephrata is back on the ice Friday night (12/15) when they take on Lampeter-Strasburg (3-2-0) at the Lancaster Ice Rink (directions ).
