Eberhart places second in LL Bowling Finals

Ephrata's Justin Eberhart this close to an L-L League bowling title.

And while he replays in his mind the excruciating experience of Monday's 10th frame in the step-ladder finals vs. Cedar Crest's Kyle Hoffman, the Ephrata junior can take solace that he did finish second in the league and punched his ticket to Districts in the process.

"It's kind of a bummer to lose the way I did, but being second in the county is not too bad, " Eberhart surmised Tuesday night.

Eberhart's journey to the brink of the L-L title was a smooth one Monday at Rocky Springs. In the morning six-game format, Eberhart was fifth with a total of 1,297 pins. Then in  the second round, he led the way with a 700 series, finishing with a 720.

He would then advance to face Hoffman, where Eberhart would eventually have the hammer in the 10th frame with Hoffman sitting on 237. Eberhart needed two strikes and three pins for the title. Unfortunately, he left the 7-pin standing on his first roll and that was it as Hoffman prevailed, 237-224.

"I was pretty happy with it overall but at the time you are kind of expecting to win that so I was a little disappointed, Eberhart said. "I knew what I had to do. Unfortunately it just didn't work out."

What has worked out is his improvement on the lanes this season. After averaging around 200 a year ago, Eberhart led Ephrata with a 213 average this year. More importantly, he will now move on to the District Tournament Saturday in Reading with a lot of confidence in his pocket.

"I'd like to at least finish in the top five, and I'd like to win it if things work out for me," he said.
