Zimmerman paces Mounts

Brandon Rutt's two-out bases loaded single in the bottom of the 6th inning plated the tying and go ahead runs as the Ephrata Mounts rallied for a 3-2 win Monday night at War Memorial Field.

Rutt's single between the outstretched glove of first baseman Adam Yunginger and second baseman Greg DePanfilis allowed Brooks Carr to score all the way from second base.

The two-run rally made a winner of Ephrata's Madison Zimmerman. Zimmerman spaced five hits and five walks while striking out 10 in a complete game effort. The Streaks had Zimmerman on the ropes early but failed to cash in on a bases loaded opportunity in the 4th inning while possessing a 2-0 lead, having scored two in the second frame on an RBI single by Jon Rieker and a sacrifice fly by Darren Yoder.

Blue Streak starter Adam Yunginger suffered a tough no decision, leaving the game in the bottom of the sixth inning having thrown 100 pitches. Yunginger, like his counterpart Zimmerman, also struck out 10, walked five, and allowed five hits.

Yoder, relieving Yunginger to start the sixth, struckout the first batter he faced but gave up a clean single to Andre Hoover. Pinch runner Ryan Brubaker moved up one base on an inflield groundout but a walk to Carr and an infield single by Brok Martin set the stage for Rutt's heroics.

With the loss the Blue Streaks drop to 5-2 in league play and 7-4 overall. The Mounts improve to 5-2 in league play and 9-2 overall.

The Mounts continue their cross-over schedule on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Warwick for a 4:15 game.
