The Year in Review


ImageWith the 2007-2008 season approaching, I'd like to look back at the accomplishments that we enjoyed last season.

Ephrata teams claimed one Section Championship last season as the Boys' Soccer team (18-5-2) walked away with that hardware in the Fall. The Girls' Soccer team (13-6) and Girls' Track Team (8-1) both came in 2nd place in their respective section. 

Two school records were broke last year, both occurring in the Spring during track season. Gabby Gehr set the school record in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet 8.5 inches, while the team of Allison Hunt, Brynn Lyons, Shannon Ream and Devon Bauder set a new 4 x 400 relay record with a time of 4:09.7). 

Gabby Gehr (Long Jump) and Brynn Lyons (Javelin) both were League Meet Champions. 

Alicia Harbold and Cordell Oberholtzer both received medals in the Cross Country League run. Stephanie Brubaker (Rifle) finished 7th in the League tournament.

The Girls' track team finished 7th in the League meet, while collecting 20 medals. The Boys Volleyball team became the first Mounts team to make the playoffs.

The Girls Lacrosse team picked up their first win ever. 

Boys Soccer Coach Rob Deininger was named Coach of the Year in Section 2. 

Danielle Zimmerman (Rifle) won a Sportsmanship Award.

Alicia Harbold and Dan Hagey won the Fackler-Hower District III Sportsmanship Award.

Cameron Auker, Alicia Harbold, Tayler Fletcher, Hannah Hess, Matt Hubbard and Alex Bippus all received the Jerry Brooks Award for competing in two sports while maintaining a 3.8 grade point average.

Cameron Auker and Alicia Harbold were both nominated for the Landis Brackbill Award for being the top LL league student athlete. They both received the U.S. Army reserve scholar-athlete award. While Brad Sweigart and Jessica Cox received the U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.

Tri Athlete Award winners were Tayler Fletcher, Arielle Gordon, Alicia Harbold, Shannon Ream, CJ Wilson, Jeremy Yoder, Brad Sweigart and Devon Williams (4 sport letterman). 

Three teams qualified for Districts; Boys' Soccer (finished 4th in Districts), Field Hockey (9-10), and the Girls' Soccer team.  

Individuals that qualified for Districts included Steve Tretter (Golf), Morgan Hosler (Golf), Amy Nicholas (Golf), Jared Becker (Wrestling), James Zimmerman (Wrestling), Nicole Martin (Swimming-4 events!), Noelle Brossman (Swimming), Shannon Ream (Swimming), Lia Denlinger (Swimming-4 events!), Ashlynn Eidemiller (Swimming), Courtney Reading (Swimming), Allison Royer (Swimming), Gabby Gehr (Track), Alicia Harbold (Track), Emily Albright (Track), Shannon Ream (Track), Tayler Fletcher (Track), Deb Morrison (Track), Samantha Fink (Track), Devon Bauder (Track), Dana Haas (Track), Brynn Lyons (Track), Caiti Strausser (Track), Allison Hunt (Track), Kati Ream (Track), CJ Wilson (Track), Jordan Yarbrough (Track), Alex Bippus (Track), Devon Williams (Track), Blake Crowhter (Track), and Jeremy Yoder (Track).

Colton Buckwalter, Brandon Funk and Caitlyn Edwards (7th place) all competed in the Eastern Pennsylvania Qualifiers Tournament, as they represented the Bowling team. 

Taking it to the state level were Gabby Gehr and Brynn Lyons representing the Girls' Track team. 

Academic All Stars last season were Alicia Harbold (Cross Country), Tayler Fletcher (Cross Country), Brad Sweigart (Cross Country), Arielle Gordon (Field Hockey), Mike Evans (Wrestling), and Yoel Yoder (Wrestling).

The Girls' Soccer Team won the team Academic Award for the 2nd consecutive season. 

The following individuals made All Section First Team: Boys Soccer: Dan Hagey (Section MVP), Tom Renko and Jeremy Yoder; Field Hockey: Hannah Hess, Kilee Rosenberry; Football: Blake Crowther (Outstanding DB), James Zimmerman; Wrestling: Jared Becker (130); Baseball: Reid Martin, Alex Weaver; Girls' Lacrosse: Jamie Gerhart, Morgan Hosler (All-League); Girls' Soccer: Jessie Cox, Leah Sipe, Arielle Gordon; Volleyball: Kyle Church and Jeremiah Yang.
