Mounts, Barons battle to tie


After a back-and-forth first half Monday night in which the Ephrata and Manheim Central boys’ soccer teams accounted for nearly a dozen combined shots on goal, the Mounts took control of the second half and dominated possession.

It seemed like it would only be a matter of time for Ephrata to find the back of the net.

Mounts fall to Trojans


Dajour Henderson and Collin Mailman each came up with a pair of touchdowns Friday night, and York Suburban ran away from visiting Ephrata, 38-6 [boxscore], in a nonleague matchup.

Mailman opened the scoring for Suburban (3-2) with 6:40 to play in the first quarter, taking a 14-yard catch from QB Tom Merkle. Mailman then ran for the two-point conversion, and Suburban hit the gas from there.

Vikings top Mounts


Ephrata traveled to Northern Lebanon Friday night hoping to notch its first victory of the 2015 campaign, but the Vikings wouldn’t hear of it, as they scored early and often to beat the Mounts, 57-26.

The Vikings, led by quarterback Isaac Wengert and Dylan Weaver, built a 43-7 lead.

Kreider 2nd at Leagues


Dom Oliveri thought he had a good round of golf in him but it just hadn't happened.

In league matches this season, parts of his game were fine but nothing quite came together.

Until Monday.

Oliveri, a senior at Conestoga Valley, shot a 2-under 70 to win the boys' individual title at the Lancaster-Lebanon League championships at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club.

"Before the match, I thought, maybe today will be the day," he said.

Oliveri finished a stroke ahead of Ephrata's Matt Kreider and Manheim Township's Jacob Macinanti.

Warwick stops Mounts


For the 10th straight season, Warwick toppled rival Ephrata, scoring 30 unanswered points en route to a 30-7 victory on Friday night.

After falling behind 7-0 early, the Warwick defense toughened up and shut down the Ephrata offence, while the Warwick offense was sparked by big plays in the passing game.
