Golf Team first to the tee box


ImageThe Ephrata Mounts Golf Team was the first to be in League action this year with back to back Section Two showdowns. When the Fairway dust had cleared, the Mounts stood in sole possession of third place in Section Two. On Tuesday and Wednesday the Mounts lost to both Lampeter-Strasburg and Cocalico, while beating Elizabethtown, Garden Spot, Lebanon, and Manheim Central.

The Mounts (8-4) are three games out of first, and three games ahead of 4th place in the Section.

The Mounts were 12 strokes behind Cocalico on Monday and 25 strokes behind L-S, but on Tuesday the Mounts closed the stroke lead to 8 and 6 respectively. 

Individually Steve Tretter shaved 9 strokes off of his opening round of 83, with a solid 74 on Tuesday. The 74 was the 5th best score recorded in Section Two on Wednesday. L-S's Gray West and Lebanon's Sam Driebelbis both fired a 71 to lead all individuals.

Ryan Contres maintained consistency scoring an 80 on both days. Eric Beamesderfer scored 85 and 82. Logan Maurer scored an 89 and 86. Monday Matt Wooley placed in the top 5 with a score of 90, and on Tuesday Willie Helander scored an 86 to figure in the Mounts scoring.

The Mounts Golf Team returns to action Tuesday August 29th at Cocalico.
