Hempfield locks down Mounts

ImageEphrata (12-3) knew it had a tough task coming into Tuesday's game against the Hempfield Black Knights (9-4), but if they wanted to be called League Champs, eventually they'd have to turn back everyone in their path.

Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be as Hempfield controlled the game against the Mounts. Hempfield, who out-shot the Mounts 14-6, slipped what turned out to be the game-winning goal, off the foot of Corey Brautigam a mere 7:13 into the match.

Less then 9 minutes later Kylee Lantz scored pushing the Knights lead to two. Meanwhile the Knights were shackling Ephrata's trio of attackers, Arielle Gordon, Leah Sipe and Aly Goodman, as the Mounts continued to try and force the ball to the middle of the field.

With less then two minutes remaining in the first half the Knight's Amanda Greenwalt slipped a goal past Merideth Weaver (5 saves) which gave the Knight's a 3-0 lead at the break.

Tonight, it looked like we were chasing our tails the whole game, we just flat out did not come out to play.

The second half started out similar to the first with Steph Graver's goal coming 9 minutes into the action, and Greenwalt adding her second goal of the game 5 minutes taking the score to it's final tally 5-0.

Assisting on goals for the Knights were Greenwalt, Casey Fry, and Adrianne Mancino.

The Mounts now try to regroup for district play which begin next Wednesday May 16th.
