Mounts maul Mares

ImageThe Ephrata Mounts girls soccer team hosted the Solanco Mares on Thursday night. Things were looking the Mounts way for Senior night with the warmest temperature in weeks in the air, and the 1-7 Mares on the schedule. The Mounts hoped to jump out to an early lead in this match.

And the Mounts did just that, as Ephrata (8-1) had another convincing win at the War, defeating Solanco 5-0.

Leah Sipe got the scoring started in the 12th minute of the match, finishing off a scrap inside the goal area.  Less than two minutes after that, Arielle Gordon headed in a goal off of an Emily Beamesderfer cross. Just over two minutes later, Gordon and Beamesderfer hooked up again with Gordon nailing a shot in the upper 90 from 20 yards out. Freshman Rebecca Martin finished off the first half scoring in the 39th minute by getting open inside the box after a pass from Sipe. As the time ran out in the first half, the Mounts were enjoying a 4-0 lead.

The only second half goal came from freshman Kelsey Adair in the 46th minute when a cross found its way over the keeper's head and into the back of the net.  Aly Goodman assisted on the play. On the night, the Lady Mounts outshot the Mares 33-5.

The seniors recognized where #2 Sabrina Pfautz, #6 Jessie Cox, #11 Arielle Gordon, #35 Meredith Weaver, and manager Dereck Wanner.
