Unbeaten Bulldogs bury Mountaineers

The Wilson Bulldog express train continued its stampede through Section One of the Lancaster-Lebanon League Friday night with a 63-0 [boxscore] trouncing of host Ephrata.

Wilson (4-0 Section One, 7-0 overall) dominated every facet of the game in racing out to a 49-0 halftime advantage, including 35 second-quarter points.

After the game, Wilson head coach Doug Dahms stressed to his players that they need to focus and not do anything to "jeopardize the team's success."

The Bulldog defense stuffed the Ephrata running game, limiting the Mounts (0-4, 2-5) to 7 yards on 29 carries.

"We played solid disciplined defense," declared Dahms. "Our defense plays assignment football."

Meanwhile, Wilson's own rushing attack moved the ball at will throughout the night.

Junior running back Rodney Gillen showed his toughness and mobility by running over and around potential tacklers en route to 150 yards and four touchdowns in the first half. Gillen's most impressive run was a 43-yard dash that included three broken tackles.

Brad Ohlinger also found plenty of daylight, rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns, including a 61-yard scoring dash around the left end.

"We know we can run the ball, and that's going to help us as the weather gets colder," said Dahms.

Senior quarterback Zach Zweizig also chipped in with a 21-yard touchdown run after eluding a strong pass rush.

Jacquil Brown continued the onslaught in the second half, giving Wilson a 56-0 lead with a 51-yard touchdown run thanks to some great blocking by his offensive line.

Jimmy Brooks capped off the night with a 5-yard touchdown run, finishing off a drive in which he carried 10 times for 71 yards.
