Mounts Win in Quarterfinals

The Ephrata Boys and Girls team both came off the pitch with victories in the Quarterfinals of the Lancaster-Lebanon League Playoffs. The boys won 1-0 over Warwick, while the girls game came down to penalty kicks, with the Lady Mounts winning 4-2.

Boys Soccer: Ephrata 1, Warwick 0: Ellis Martin’s goal in the 23rd minute, a finish of an Andrey Patrushev feed, proved the difference in the Mountaineers’ victory at Cocalico that propelled them into a semifinal meeting with Lancaster Mennonite.

Mounts keeper Cole Hummel stopped Ash Deery — one of just three shots on goal by the Warriors (11-5-2) — six minutes later to maintain the shutout as the Mounts (15-3) enjoyed a 5-0 edge in corners and 6-3 in shots.

Girls Soccer: Ephrata 2, Donegal 1 (4-2 PKs): In a quarterfinal match at Manheim Central, Abbie Weist’s goal in the 23rd minute gave the Mountaineers (18-1) an early advantage, but Donegal evened the score on Maya Willing’s goal in the 69th minute.

The teams battled scoreless through the next 41 minutes, with Ephrata posting seven corners and none shots on goal to Donegal’s four and five.

With no decision after 110 minutes, the match went to penalty kicks.

Donegal (14-2-3) went first, the shot sailing over the frame and Mounts keeper Jocelyn Umana saved the second PK.

Meanwhile, Brooke Ludwig and Anie Slovak converted to put Ephrata up 2-0.

Hannah Dunn got the Indians on the board, answered by Maddie Root, and India Foreman closed the gap to 3-2 before Umana buried her PK, sealing the victory.
