Mounts sweep Barons

ImageThe Ephrata Mounts track & field teams traveled to Manheim to do battle with the Barons this past Monday afternoon.
With some key athletes returning form injury, the Mounts won both the meets as the boys came home with a convincing 106-44 victory while the Lady Mounts were not far behind, coming home with a 93-56 decision.
On the boys side of things, James Wilson and Dallas Stauffer had two wins apiece on the track while Andrew Zinkan grabbed a pair of victories in the field. Wilson captured the 100 (11.1) and 200 (22.4) while Stauffer was a winner in the 110 hurdles (17.2) and 300 hurdles (44.1). Zinkan won both the shot put (48-6) and discus (130-10).
Other winners for the Mounts on the track, who won 15 of the 18 overall events were: Mike Trella (1600, 4:43.7), Tom Renko (400, 54.6), and Cordell Oberholtzer in the 3200 (11:21.2).
The Mount jumpers who placed first were CJ Wilson in the high jump (5-6) and Nick Berry in the pole vault (10-6). Dan Szabo won the javelin with a toss of 153-10, and the boys also won all three relays, with Kyle Sensenig, Stauffer, Willie Hopkins and Wilson running a season best time in the 4 x 100 relay in 44.6.
The Mounts ran their Section Two record to 3-1 and their overall record to 3-4.
The Lady Mounts were led by senior Courtney Beiler with wins in both the 100 hurdles (15.8) and 300 hurdles (49.0). Junior Amber Davies also claimed two wins in the jumps, setting a personal best in the long jump (15-1) while also taking the triple jump (29-11).
Junior Holly Witmer added two wins in the field, scoring victories in both shot (30-7.25) and discus (94-0). Other winners for the Mounts were Brynn Lyons, who ran her best time of the year in the 400 in 62.0, Samantha Fink in the 800 (2:39.1), and Kelly Holst in the 3200 (13:31). The Lady Mounts also captured all three relays, a key to the victory.
The girls team record now stands at 2-2 in Section Two, 4-3 overall.
