Lady Mounts drop Buckskins

ImageThe Lady Mounts finally broke into the win column Friday night.  Marcy Dull capped an excellent all-around game with a coast-to-coast buzzer-beating basket to down Conestoga Valley, 45-43, in Witmer.

With CV holding for the final shot, Dull forced her defender into a tough leaning jumper that was off the mark with about six seconds to play.  She collected the rebound and beat the defense and the clock to the opposite end, banking in a six-foot runner just before the final horn.

Dull was Ephrata's leading scorer, with 15 points, and added 14 rebounds and 7 assists.

The game was close throughout, with CV holding a one-point lead going into the final quarter.  Soph guard Brynn Lyons (10 points) sparked an 9-0 run to start the quarter, with a three and a layup, and junior forward Christine Weaver (14 points and 8 rebounds) followed with two more baskets, putting Ephrata up by 8.  A furious CV rally, including two three-pointers, tied the score before Dull's heroics.

Junior guard Arielle Gordon also played a key role, helping contain the 2005 LL leading scorer as Ephrata allowed the Bucks to shoot just 28% from the field.

The Lady Mounts make their home debut Tuesday against Garden Spot, in a game scheduled for broadcast on Blue Ridge Cable-11.
