Boys win first as Mounts swimmers sweep Barons

ImageThe outnumbered Ephrata boys swim team finally got in the win column last Thursday afternoon in a home meet vs. Manheim Central.

Sparked by double winner Dereck Fritz, the Mounts splashed the Barons, 75-59 to grab their first win of the season, and also their first since 2004.

The Ephrata girls then made it a clean sweep on their side, dusting the Barons, 111-58 behind a balanced attack.

The EHS boys improved to 1-11 on the year as Fritz was a winner in both the 200 free and 100 back while also helping two Ephrata Relays to victory.

In addition to Fritz, Justin Brown swam to a win in the 50 free with a time of 23.15, while Tom Ossman captured the 500 free in a time of 5:50.07 to round out the individual winners.

On the girls' side, Megan Royer finished with a pair of individual victories to pace the team.

Royer earned wins in both the 50 free (25.70) and 100 free (57.69).

In addition to Royer, others who won individual events included: Kayla Raptosh, 200 free (2:19:18); Amber Davies, 100 fly (1:00.23); Courtney Reading, 500 free (6:05.51); Valerie Numbers, 100 back (1:10.56) and Allison Royer, 100 breast (1:20.11).

The Ephrata girls improved to 8-4 on the season.
