Pioneers stop Mounts in Finals


By now, Lampeter-Strasburg's girls' basketball team is aware of the bull's-eye it's wearing on its collective back.

 
A bull's-eye that, perhaps, got a bit bigger Friday night.
 
Getting a game-high 14 points from junior guard Taylor Lininger and a defensive effort that forced 29 Ephrata turnovers, L-S remained undefeated by rolling to a 59-36 victory over the Mountaineers in the championship game of the Ephrata Holiday Tournament on Friday night at Ephrata Middle School.

Mounts will host Pioneers in Finals


Ephrata's and Lampeter-Strasburg's girls' basketball teams both got to the title game of the Ephrata Holiday Tournament the same way Thursday night.
 
They stole a ticket. Pretty much literally.
 
Forcing nine first-quarter turnovers out of McCaskey to take control from the outset, Ephrata rolled to a 65-35 first-round victory over the Red Tornado Thursday night at Ephrata Middle School.

A truism neither Garden Spot coach Brian Schilling, nor Ephrata coach Josh Clair could dispute Tuesday evening.
 
Schilling's senior leaders -- tri-captains Nick Cook, Tanner Leid and Matt Christie -- came through in a large way in the league opener in New Holland.
