Mounts dropped by Buckskins


The season-opening football contest between Ephrata and Conestoga Valley featured two new coaches - so to speak.

Gerad Novak returned to his former head coaching role with the Buckskins after being away for several years. Meanwhile, across the field, Kris Miller took over the helm for Ephrata. As could be expected, both were nervous before the game started.

Ephrata has a new head football coach.

Conestoga Valley grad and former Northern Lebanon defensive coordinator Kris Miller received school board approval on Monday night, and he’ll be the Mountaineers’ next coach.

Elco raids Mounts


MYERSTOWN — Elco scored the first five times it touched the ball, building a 34-0 halftime lead en route to a 48-7 [boxscore] thrashing of winless Ephrata.

Elco (5-1 Section Three, 5-4 overall) scored 48 unanswered points before surrendering a fourth-quarter touchdown to the Mounts (0-6, 0-8).

Indians beat Mounts


A power outage in War Memorial Stadium eight minutes after kickoff couldn’t slow down the big plays Friday night in a high-scoring battle between Ephrata and Donegal.

In the end, the Donegal offense proved too much for the Mounts to keep up with, and the Indians prevailed 61-25 [boxscore], dealing Ephrata (0-6 Section Three, 0-10 overall) its 31st straight loss.

Braves scalp Mounts


On the night that its school inducted the 2015 Hall of Fame class, the Pequea Valley defense posted a dominating performance in leading the Braves to a 42-14 [boxscore] victory over Ephrata.

Pequea Valley’s defense absolutely manhandled the Mountaineers at the line of scrimmage, darting into the offensive backfield on nearly every play.
