Pioneers stifle Mounts


It has been this way as long as they can remember. Jack Kelly on the right wing with Dan Marcroft in the middle.

From LSYS through Nitro FC to under the lights at Lampeter-Strasburg. Their bond is undeniable. It was built through a close friendship and more passes than either can count.

“You can tell maybe two years after you start playing together,” Marcroft said. “You just develop chemistry as it goes on.”

Mounts Break Through in 3rd


SOUTH LEBANON — Ephrata scored twice in the third period to post a 2-1 Lancaster- Lebanon League Section Two field hockey win at Cedar Crest on Tuesday night.

The Mounts (7-1 overall, 1-1 L-L Section Two) had several opportunities in the first half but did not break through until Joanna Ehrhart and Anna Commero hit the back of the net after intermission.

Mules Stay Perfect at Mounts Expense


By the end of the night Friday, the Solanco rushing attack tallied 19 first downs at Ephrata.

Four of those came on third or fourth down over the last 10 minutes, which proved to be the final drive of the game to preserve the Mules’ 25-17 win in a Lancaster- Lebanon League Section Three football opener at War Memorial Field.

“That proves we’re a hard-nosed team,” Solanco senior fullback Cole Harris said. “We keep driving to get the first down whenever we can.”

Mounts Ace Warriors


If Taylor Haupt isn’t quite 6 feet, she’s close.

“I’d say in shoes, I’m about 6 foot,” the Ephrata senior outside hitter said.

Shoes or no shoes, Haupt stood tall — literally and figuratively - on Monday night, recording a matchhigh 14 kills as the Mounts shut out Warwick 3-0 (2517, 25-13, 25-11) in a nonleague battle of back-yard rivals in Lititz.

Ephrata Nets Shutout


It’s hard for a player to imagine a more perfect scenario. The ball on his foot and the keeper nowhere near the cage.

It was an easy shot, in theory. A lifetime of experience has taught Tyler Fegely it’s also an easy shot to miss.

Before he unleashed his attempt from about 25 yards, the Ephrata senior had to remind himself of a few things. Point his toe. Look at the goal. Look at the ball. The basics.
