Lady Mounts bow out of States


There hadn’t been a corner kick all game. So, when Central Bucks East found itself with three in succession with just under 17 minutes remaining and the scored tied in its PIAA Class AAA first-round girls soccer game, it knew the opportunity had arrived to win the game.

And the Patriots did just that, as Paige Weiss’ third corner in 30 seconds was knocked back and forth in front of the goal, and teammate Maddie Myrtetus finished it off for the game-winner.

East held on to defeat District Three’s Ephrata 2-1 at William Tennent on Tuesday night, and advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinal round.

Indians top Mounts


The stakes were clear for Donegal: Win or go home for the Indians, who were on the bubble as the No. 16 team in District Three Class AAA prior to Friday.

Donegal (4-2 LL, 7-3 overall) made sure its season would continue for at least another week in a rut of Ephrata (0-6, 0-10) in an LL Section Three football game. The 67-21 [box score] win guarantees the Indians a spot in next week's district playoffs.

Lady Mounts earn spot in States


Ephrata picked up a pair of first half goals and held off a flurry of chances from Cedar Cliff over the final 20 minutes, advancing to the District Three Class AAA semifinals and clinching a state playoff berth with a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon at Cedar Crest High School.

In other Class AAA games involving L-L teams, 10th-seeded Elizabethtown shocked second seeded Lower Dauphin, 2-1, and 19th-seeded Penn Manor bowed out of the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Hershey.

Eagles Soar Past Mounts


It’s been 14 years since Cumberland Valley and Ephrata met in the District Three girls’ soccer tournament.

A history marked with four victories by the Eagles in four starts, including a 1-0 victory in the 1998 championship game and 1-0 in the ’99 semifinals, added a new chapter Tuesday evening at Cedar Crest’s Earl Boltz Stadium with a convincing 8-0 win over the Mounts in the semifinal match.

Raiders top Mounts


Elco quarterback Jeffrey Martin led an aerial assault against Ephrata, leading his squad to a 55-7 victory [box score] on Friday night.

Martin hit his first four pass attempts on the Raiders’ opening drive, connecting with 6-foot-1, 220-pound tight end Dylan Stoops from 16 yards out for their first of two scoring plays.
